But is dental sedation expensive? Let\u2019s examine some of the factors that affect the cost of sedation dentistry and why it\u2019s a great investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Dental Sedation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The price of ensuring you\u2019re comfortable in the dental chair will vary based on which type of sedation you\u2019re receiving. The four most common ones are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Nitrous oxide<\/strong> \u2013 Also called \u201claughing gas,\u201d nitrous oxide is the lightest form of dental sedation. It is an invisible, odorless gas that is inhaled through a mask placed over your nose. You\u2019ll remain conscious but deeply relaxed throughout the procedure.<\/li><li><strong>Oral conscious sedation<\/strong> \u2013 For moderate dental anxiety, you can take a prescribed pill about an hour before your appointment. Again, you\u2019ll stay awake but feel relaxed and likely unaware of your surroundings.<\/li><li><strong>IV sedation<\/strong> \u2013 Some dentists can administer a potent sedative directly into your bloodstream. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ellicottcitysmiles.com\/iv-sedation.html\">IV sedation<\/a> is not designed to induce unconsciousness, you may feel so at ease that you briefly doze off.<\/li><li><strong>General anesthesia<\/strong> \u2013 With general anesthesia, you\u2019ll be fully unconscious. This solution is ideal for patients who have trouble sitting still for extended periods of time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Factors That Affect the Cost of Sedation Dentistry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, the more powerful form of sedation you receive, the more it will cost. The amount you\u2019ll have to pay will also depend on your level of insurance coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ellicottcitysmiles.com\/dental-insurance.html\">dental insurance<\/a> companies do NOT fully cover sedation, but there are some exceptions.
